About Read Ahead
Read Ahead helps New York City youth build the literacy skills, love of reading, and confidence they need to thrive in school and beyond. We partner with under-resourced public elementary schools, students and their families, leading corporations, and caring volunteers to foster a love of learning in young readers through our weekly reading-based mentoring program.
Fewer than half of public school students in New York City are reading at grade level. For elementary school students — who are at a critical age where children learn to read, and form the foundation of their relationship with school and learning — the need for additional, individualized support has never been more urgent.
Team Read Ahead for the 2024 United Airlines NYC Half
Read Ahead’s work with students is made possible by a generous community of supporters who believe in the power of one-on-one reading support and mentoring.
Members of Team Read Ahead commit to raising critical funds (minimum of $2,000 per runner) in support of our program. Our staff provides all of the tools, templates, and support you need to meet your fundraising goal. As part of Team Read Ahead, runners receive:

- A personalized fundraising page, with resources and expert support to help you meet your goal
